13th International Perennial Plant Conference more international than ever before

(ZVG/ISU) The 13th International Perennial Plant Conference, which took place in Grünberg from 7th-9th February, showed that dynamic planting inspired by combinations found in meadows is generally on trend. Promoting biodiversity is the motivation behind this. However, static planting also no longer corresponds to the current attitude towards life in many countries. The ten speakers from Japan, Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, Ireland, England, Sweden, Scotland and Armenia conveyed a further growing trend towards experimentation with plants and locations. Climate change is also noticeably leading to a new, adapted use of plants.
The speakers passionately reported on organic production, seed propagation and the cultivation of new varieties, demonstrating their extensive knowledge of the subject.
The experts will be able to take a look at further natural habitats of many endemic plants during the excursion to Armenia by the International Hardy Plant Union (ISU) in 2021. The over 100 participants greatly appreciated the expert suggestions by all of the highly renowned speakers. As always, however, the guests themselves also possessed a high level of expertise and had gained a wealth of international experience: the gardeners, planners and other experts in attendance came from 19 countries. As ISU President, Aad Vollebregt provided information about the requirements concerning the plant passport and, with regard to adapting the nomenclature, clearly advocated that new names should only be adopted in the trade if they have remained unchanged for a certain period of time and have become part of horticultural practice. The customers of perennial gardeners would otherwise be completely overwhelmed. He thanked ISU board member Gerben Tjeerdsma for the very successful conference that Tjeerdsma had organised excellently together with Bildungsstätte Gartenbau.

In 2021, the 14th International Perennial Plant Conference will take place in Grünberg from 12th-14th February.
